About Scott
Winship
As far back as I
can remember, I
have always had
an affinity with
creating
three-dimensional
structures. At
secondary school
I enjoyed Design
Communication
and Art and went
on to study at
Harrogate
College, where I
specialised in
Ceramics,
achieving an
overall Merit
grade in
Advanced GNVQ
Art and Design.
This secured me
a place at
Swansea
University on a
Degree course in
Design Ceramics.
Later on I
became
interested in
traditional
crafts and
landscaping, and
particularly dry
stone walling,
which would
offer me the
opportunity to
work outside, in
the Yorkshire
Dales. In
January 2000 I
started training
with a well
established dry
stone waller
based near
Skipton. This
enabled me to
develop skills
in dry stone
walling,
achieving the
Dry Stone
Walling
Association’s
Intermediate
Certificate in
2002.
By 2002 I was
starting to
acquire my own
customers and
eventually had a
large enough
client base to
set up and
manage my own
dry stone
walling
business. From
this point
onwards I began
to diversify by
applying the
skills acquired
in building
field and
boundary walls
into a variety
of landscaping
features.
Over my years of
experience in
dry stone
walling I have
built up regular
customers who
supply me with
plentiful work,
including
farmers, estate
owners, builders
and the Woodland
Trust, plus home
owners who want
decorative
garden features. |
